Poipu Surfing
A favorite activity of visitors to Kauai is spending time on Poipu Beach but for more adventurous travelers there is surfing on the southern shore.
Surfing can be done year-round and there are a few local schools offering Poipu surf lessons and clinics:
Kauai Surf School
Kauai Surf School offers private and group lessons for beginner surfers and week-long surf clinics for more advanced surfers. They keep lessons smalls, at only four students per instructor and offer lessons at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., and 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. The cost is $75 per person.
Poipu Beach Surf School
Owned and operated by Doug Muraoka, a former pro bodyboarder, the surf school offers a variety of surf packages based on skill level or time investment. There’s the beginner two hour surf lesson for $67 per person, a family surf package for three or more people, private surf for one or two people at $127 per person, or a half day tour at $297 per person.
