Whalers Cove

Gift for that hard to buy for person, or for yourself!

Snorkel at Whalers Cove

You really can’t beat this Summer weather in October, it happens so rarely that we tend to appreciate it every chance we get…we love it. This time of year, the Southern swell is starting to calm down, allowing for perfect snorkel conditions right out in front of Whalers Cove Resort.  With such great conditions, a group of snorkelers took full advantage and started following a pair of Manta Rays and Sea Turtles. Thankfully, while they were enjoying their adventure with nature, they took a brief moment to get a picture of Whalers Cove from a view that we don’t get to see everyday…taken right from the water.

Typically October and November is the slow season around here, and most people find it’s the best time to visit Kauai and truly enjoy a relaxing getaway. With less people on the island,  means you can enjoy a wealth of activities as if you are the only person here. Can you imaging having the ocean all to yourself? It can happen if you book your reservation with us today and come enjoy the slow season in a oceanfront condo, right here at Whalers Cove Resort.

Cove history

There is a gorgeous 10 mile walking journey around the Koloa and Poipu area (Called the Koloa Heritage Trail) that you can do by foot or bike or car! It covers millions of years of history and culture of the area. On the walk we found the history and importance of the beautiful cove in front of Whalers Cove. Its just amazing that back in the day so many ships were here, and last February 2011 a mother humpback whale

Koloa Landing

brought her new born baby to this cove to teach it how to breath!

Not so easy to photograph….

While laying back on the pool deck, this bird (Frigate) was just hovering above us in the trade winds. Its so nice to see the blue sky, and palm tree with this beautiful sea bird. Wish I had wings!

Amazing Dolphin Hop!

This weekend we took a boat ride up the Na Pali Coast! On the way back to Whalers we saw the most impressive dolphin show I have ever seen. I believe they were chasing a fish. Approx. 10 dolphins jumped out of the water completely synchronized. I wasn’t quick enough with the camera but I caught a couple of them. So cool!

Biggest Honu I’ve ever seen!

Went for a dive in the cove next to the resort and came upon the biggest turtle (Honu) I have ever seen. His shell was at least 4 feet long. He just watched me as I watched him!

Surge in the Cove

Its very rare to see large waves come into the Cove, flood the boat ramp and head up stream. Turtles were cruisin’ in the middle. but there wasn’t a diver or snorkler to be seen.

Summer Swell!

Wave Rocks

Impressive

OK the North Side 10 to 15, no problem…. but the South Side! Wow! We haven’t seen waves this size in a few years! All because of a storm down in New Zealand. Exciting with the constant roar of the long sets all night, and then the frequent crash boom as the occasional big one crashes against our wall. Perfect sound effects for a good read at the pool!

Swell Summer!

Rita anyone?

Its so nice having such a nice village mall so close to Whalers Cove…. now you can walk up to the village for Mexican! Jordan James (former Beach House Manage) just opened up the Tortilla Republic. Finer dining upstairs, more casual downstairs. Margarita’s anyone?

Boogie-mazing

My friends son was showing us some tricks in the waves at Poipu Beach Park. Crazy what you can do with that little boogie board!
