This huge orchid bloomed this week, all by itself. About 3.5″ across, and screaming Kauai’s official color! Had to photograph it!

You’re really going to love your travel plans now: Koloa Plantation Days, a family friendly festival, is taking place here from July 20-29! This is a special opportunity to learn more about the island’s plantation history while having a fun time at events like fire dancing, a sand dune hike and historic films.
Calmer activities are also available if you’re looking forward to some quiet time during your vacation: a retired pastor will be sharing a “talk story” about his memories of the old Koloa plantation on the 27th, and a special watercolor class will be held on the same day at CJM Stables, just 13 minutes from the hotel.
