Sunsets are never boring!
No matter how many sunsets I see, I never get tired of them. These Winter Sunsets are some of the best on the south shore. Hope you enjoy
Winter Mai Tai Sunset!
I think it’s safe to say that literally everyone who visits Whalers Cove quickly finds out the absolute best thing to do! We are spoiled in the winter time, because every single night we get to watch that big bright ball sink into the ocean! Never get tired of this!
Stand Up Paddle at Whalers Cove
Stand up paddle is the new “old” craze in ocean sports. The revival of this historic Hawaiian sport is popular with the young and the young at heart! This guy was seen coming into Whalers Cove right around sunset. He says winter is the best time to enjoy stand up paddle. The waves are calmer on the south shore and makes for perfect conditions. Walk on Water!!!
Happy New Year! Welcome 2012!
The fireworks in Poipu were awesome! We stood out on the pool deck at Whalers Cove with a few other guests and enjoyed our private viewing of the light show. It was so nice to see the ocean light up with all the colors from the fire works! We also discovered a rare guest in the orchid garden. By far the largest orchid we’ve ever seen, and it has a slight fragrance. This is rare for most orchids don’t have a fragrance. This big beauty only blooms once per year!
New Pool Furniture – Ahhhhhh!
Whalers Cove just installed brand new furniture on the Ocean Front pool deck. Bring your water and a good book, this is where you want to be for a quiet afternoon, eh?
Shortest Day of the Year starts nice!
December 21 is the shortest day of the year. So we wanted to catch the sun rise on such an important day! Stay tuned and we will try to catch the sunrise later! Taken from the pool deck at Whalers Cove in Poipu.

Snorkel at Whalers Cove
You really can’t beat this Summer weather in October, it happens so rarely that we tend to appreciate it every chance we get…we love it. This time of year, the Southern swell is starting to calm down, allowing for perfect snorkel conditions right out in front of Whalers Cove Resort. With such great conditions, a group of snorkelers took full advantage and started following a pair of Manta Rays and Sea Turtles. Thankfully, while they were enjoying their adventure with nature, they took a brief moment to get a picture of Whalers Cove from a view that we don’t get to see everyday…taken right from the water.
Cove history
There is a gorgeous 10 mile walking journey around the Koloa and Poipu area (Called the Koloa Heritage Trail) that you can do by foot or bike or car! It covers millions of years of history and culture of the area. On the walk we found the history and importance of the beautiful cove in front of Whalers Cove. Its just amazing that back in the day so many ships were here, and last February 2011 a mother humpback whale
brought her new born baby to this cove to teach it how to breath!
Not so easy to photograph….
While laying back on the pool deck, this bird (Frigate) was just hovering above us in the trade winds. Its so nice to see the blue sky, and palm tree with this beautiful sea bird. Wish I had wings!
